Add an Extra Bathroom to Your Basement
An additional bathroom provides the needed facelift to a basement you would like to remodel. Additionally, remodelling the areas downstairs will help you identify and fix the problems, like cracks or wiring, found in your basement. Before you proceed with the remodelling, proper planning is required. As with any remodelling jobs, particularly in the basement, you need to look for proper access to electrical outlets and plumbing, as well as set the budget for this big project.
You need to figure out how much of the basement space would your bathroom take and what facilities should fit into it. Carefully lay the floor plan out so that you can fit all the features you want for your bathroom, or make adjustments in case there is not enough space. Depending on your space, you can include the following in your new bathroom: bathtub, shower area, changing area, cabinets, big framed mirrors, dressers and vanity sink.
LIGHTING: Remember that basements don't often have the luxury of natural light, since windows are most often absent from the design. In your design plan, make sure that lighting is properly allocated. A room with poor lights will almost always not be in use. The extra space in this case will defeat the purpose.
FLOORING and TILES: Choose the right bathroom flooring and tiles. It should match or compliment the design of your room and the decorations you would like have in there, to make the room more comfortable and pleasant.
STORAGE SPACE: Bathrooms need a lot of storage space and cabinets. Properly measure the space where your cabinets will go and double check if it does not pose any hindrance or blockage to areas like the electrical outlets or switches and the like.
