Creating a Theme for Your Basement

Basements are normally problem areas when it comes to decoration. Because of its location, there are certain limitations as to what you can do with the area. But basements need not be wasted space. It also does not have to be just another storage space, for there are many things you can do with your basements, after remodelling this and adding its decorative benefits.

Because basements are usually made of concrete and have beams all around it, why not consider a rustic look as its theme? Rustic or the natural style would suit well and would improve the ambiance by adding the right decorative pieces. This theme would also suit well if the room is intended for gaming or family activities as there is little upkeep and maintenance to do, it's all part of the "look"

If you prefer a more cheerful look, use colors that open up the room instead of keeping it cold and gloomy. A retro theme , with its bright, energetic colors and designs can turn a dull room into a bright party space. Add a bar or a music area, and you're on your way to hosting great parties.

For a more laidback atmosphere, go for the country theme , with its comfortable and relaxing design elements, especially if you wish to turn the basement into a reading area/work space.

Transform your dark and uninviting basements by adding appropriate light fixtures, and carry a vintage theme throughout your space. Light can do a lot to change the look of the room; and if you go for the vintage look, it can add a lot of drama. Plus, it makes the room look much more romantic!

Choose a theme that defines you, your lifestyle, your hobby, or your dreams!

One idea is to go with a nautical theme. Most people enjoy the beach and the ocean. Make your own private getaway in your basement. Everything Nautical has hundreds of items to help you decorate your basement in a nautical theme.
